Transitions

We recognise the importance of personal social and emotional development as a prime area of children's learning. Well planned, thoughtful transitions often have a smoother, more beneficial outcome for children and parents/carers.

Here is a copy of our 'Transition Policy' for you to learn how we support you and your child through each transition from starting with us to moving on to School, we are here for you.

                                                                TRANSITION POLICY

Transition for children occurs whenever they experience a change in their lives, for example when starting nursery or school for the first time.

Starting nursery is a big step for children and the team at Robin Hill recognises that children and their families require support during this time.  It is important for both parents and children to prepare themselves for the nursery environment and for them to know what to expect when they start.

Starting at Robin Hill

Before your child starts with us, you will receive a booklet to share with your child. It includes photographs of the nursery environment, the staff team along with information that you may need to know before arriving for the first day.

We also offer a home visit and a minimum of two settling in sessions for your child. *See ‘Settling in’ policy for more details.

Moving around the Nursery

We understand that all transitions matter, including transitions from one room to another. At Robin Hill, when a child moves from the Caterpillar room to the Butterfly group or in to the After School Club, they receive a booklet, much like the one you receive before joining us. We ask that you share this with your child in preparation for the move.

Your child will also receive ‘taster sessions’ which their key person will accompany them to.

When your child moves from the Butterfly group in to the After School Club, they will occasionally accompany the practitioner collecting the children in the mini bus.

Transition to School

Starting school can be daunting for both you and your child. We understand that and so we aim to support you and prepare your child as much as we possibly can.

Firstly, we complete ‘Summative Assessments’ for each child, with the help from you and we send them to their new school. This gives the school an idea of your child’s level of development.

We invite Reception Teachers in to meet your child as well as attending school open days to share important information about your child.

We send each family a ‘Top Tips’ booklet which gives you information about the little things that happen at school and what to expect as a Parent/Carer.

The Butterfly team set up school role play areas, providing school uniforms for the children to dress up in, P.E sessions and much more!

We hold ‘Skills for School’ workshops during the summer holidays to ensure that those fundamental skills don’t get lost before September and the management team provide parents with ‘Phonic sessions’ to share how we teach them in a way that is fun and exciting!

The team at Robin Hill recognise the importance of personal social and emotional development as a prime area of children’s learning.  Well planned, thoughtful transitions often have a smoother, more beneficial outcome for children and parents/carers.
